God morning my brothers and sisters,
As a business coach, it is fascinating to see what so many people are going thru. These last few weeks, the word mindset keeps coming up. So, let me ask, 'What is your current mindset?' It will affect everything about you.
Ten years ago, I found myself watching a group of boys in Scouts, many of whom were so close to earning their Eagle Scout rank. But I noticed something troubling…many of the older boys were leaving the troop, frustrated and disillusioned. They felt like they were babysitting the younger Scouts, as most activities were tailored to the abilities of the youngest participants. The adventurous, risk-taking spirit that had once excited them was gone, and the thrill had disappeared.
Concerned, a few of us parents came together to discuss what could be done. We realized that if our boys were going to stay engaged and finish their journey toward Eagle Scout, we needed to bring back the adventure and excitement that had originally drawn them to Scouting. We, as parents, committed to supporting our boys, knowing that if they returned to a more adventurous program, we needed to back them all the way. But it wasn’t just about us. We called the boys together and asked for their commitment as well.
In the end, eight boys and their parents decided to re-commit to the journey. We needed a Scoutmaster to start a new more adventurous Troop. We also had to find someone who was willing to step up despite being unqualified, but with the heart to see it through. I had the privilege of taking on that role, but the truth is, these incredible young men led each other. They created an exciting, challenging program where every Eagle Scout project was completed. They brought back the adventure, helped one another, and gave back to the community. Their motto became, "8 for 8, no one left behind."
As parents, none of us had been Scouts ourselves. We had to study, prepare, and do whatever it took to help these boys succeed. And they did—with the right mindset, courage, and determination, all eight boys became Eagle Scouts. I’m excited to see what their future holds, because the perseverance and leadership they showed was beyond extraordinary.
This experience reminded me of a powerful truth: Your mindset is your greatest asset. It’s how you approach every challenge and opportunity. A strong, positive mindset allows you to persevere when times are tough, to innovate when obstacles arise, and to thrive where others might give up. Just like those boys, when you focus your mindset on success and commit to seeing it through, even the most daunting goals can be achieved.
This now leads me to our Friday Fly-by word, and it comes from Romans 12:2, and it says, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."
This verse teaches that transformation starts with renewing our mindset. Just as those boys had to shift their focus back to adventure and purpose to achieve their goals, we too must constantly renew our minds to align with God’s will. In that renewal, we find the strength to persevere, grow, and succeed in all areas of life.
With the right mindset, anything is possible.
Once again, here is hoping this made a difference for you today. Love you all, now be blessed and go be a blessing!
