God morning my brothers and sisters,
Time is flying, halfway thru the year already! The 4th of July just reminds me of time with family and friends, here is hoping you will take the time to make it great.
This week, I had an opportunity to talk to a potential client about coaching them on building their business and organizing their calendar to be more efficient. While reviewing his calendar, I was initially impressed by how colorful and arranged it was. However, I quickly noticed a significant gap—nowhere did he have time dedicated to his family or friends. This was surprising, especially for a family man with three children and a beautiful wife.
Curious, I asked him how business and life were going. He responded that business was good, though not where he wanted it to be, and life was good, but then he paused, 'I just don't have time' for family and friends, and that is stressing him out, he is feeling pressure from his wife about that area, 'but oh, it is all good', he says. Despite his well-organized calendar, the lack of relational time never came up in his inquiries about time blocking. He prioritized his work but not his family or friends.
Building your vocation is important, but getting the affairs of your home in order is critical. Spending time with family should be your top priority. We all have 24 hours in a day. We can choose to have 8 hours of sleep, 8 hours of personal time, and 8 hours of vocational time. Focusing solely on vocational well-being is not enough. Relational well-being should be just as important, if not more so than being financially well-off. Your investment in your family is where it starts, and the ripple effect goes from there.
The Bible reminds us that change must start at home. To change the world, including our work, we must have our home affairs in order. Think about your family affairs and commitments, even something as simple as dinner at home with family should be in your calendar. It puts your family in your mind daily and it prioritizes them. You have the time; it's just a matter of how you want to allocate and prioritize that time and what you are willing to commit to.
Take a moment this weekend to list out all that you do in both vocational and relational well-being and then put it into your calendar. You'll see their importance. Sometimes it's not that you're having a tough time growing your business, but that you're not taking the time to grow yourself and your relationships first. This might be the cause of your limitations.
This reminded me of our Friday Fly-by word of the week, and it comes from Ecclesiastes 3:1 and it says, "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens."
Take comfort in knowing that prioritizing your family and relational well-being is not only beneficial but essential. Trust in God's plan, and let your calendar reflect your true priorities. Hope this has encouraged you today, as always, love you all and go be blessed and go be a blessing!
